DUC Pink Testimonials

A Dream Come True

Dragon Boating has put spring in my step, gotten me out of a survival, sedentary lifestyle, where I was only living to work/survive.  DUC Pink has given me the opportunity to move, breathe, get on the water, sweat, PLAY, work hard at playing, and make cherished new friends.

Proud Donations

“I donate to Dallas United PINK because I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact it has made on my daughter. Although I have not experienced breast cancer myself, this extraordinary group of women has surrounded her with understanding, encouragement, and strength in ways that I could not provide, even as her mother.”

Turning Survivors into Thrivers

In 2026, our team will have the honor of participating in an International Breast Cancer dragon boat competition in France, joining over 4600 other survivors from around the globe.  This event represents not just a competition, but a celebration of life, resilience, and the unbreakable spirit of breast cancer survivors.

FAQ

Why is KWC partnering with DUC Pink?

Kate Weiser Chocolate is proudly woman-owned and has been directly affected by breast cancer. Many people have been affected by breast cancer. The average risk of a woman in the United States developing breast cancer sometime in her life is about 13% - KWC is no exception. Today our company has two known breast cancer survivors among our workforce. Including many employees who have experienced breast cancer among their family and friends.

Who can join you in the boat?

Any breast cancer survivor can join us! Our members encompass all ages spanning several decades, some in active treatment, and some who are 20+ year survivors. DUC Pink is inclusive of all and is comprised of women from diverse backgrounds.

What is the relationship between breast cancer and dragon boating?

In 1996, a sports medicine physician, Dr. Don McKenzie from the University of British Columbia, discovered the benefits of paddling for overall health following cancer treatments. He challenged the validity of accepted wisdom that discouraged breast cancer patients from participating in strenuous upper body exercises. He conducted studies and found that upper body exercise had a role in recovery because it improved range of motion, reduced muscle atrophy, activated the immune system, and reduced symptoms of lymphedema.

What is DUC Pink?

The Dallas United Crew’s Pink team (known as DUC Pink) is Dallas’ first Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Team.  United through a shared diagnosis, DUC Pink encourages and empowers survivors to engage in a lifetime of fun, exercise and camaraderie on the water. It is proven that if women stay active with upper body exercise, the chance of recurrence is reduced.
